Several years ago, I had the privilege to help plan and execute an exclusive 7-day itinerary for clients who were attending The Art Biennale of Venice, during the premier week! This prestigious festival features a wide range of events and anticipates the participation of over 75 countries in pavilions organized by country. Imagine going to Venice, a unique city in itself, to see your country’s art pavilion! It’s such a special experience.
During this week-long program, our clients and guests enjoyed one experience after another. This Venetian program allowed them to explore traditional sites like the Grand Canal, several stunning palazzos and the many picturesque bridges spanning the canals. But it also included a rare opportunity to dine on authentic Venetian foods cooked by Michelin-star chefs in a historic palazzo while a soprano and baritone moved us with their voices. We also had an early morning viewing of St. Mark’s Basilica - watching the completely dark church become illuminated by over 1,000+ bright lights on the ceiling, one massive row at a time. This “reveal” was magical.
These were just a few of the special things on this custom itinerary that allowed our clients to immerse themselves deeply in the rich history and artistic heritage of Venice. It was an honor to experience this week at The Art Biennale in Venice.

I recently had the opportunity to spend 10 days in Sardinia, the north to be exact, both the east and the west, including the Maddalena Islands. Sardinia had been on my bucket list for so long, so I finally made the time and off I went. Well, it didn’t disappoint. Costa Smeralda, on the northeastern side of the island, with its pristine beaches and luxurious resorts lived up to my daydreams. In fact, for a bit of fun – and a challenge to myself – I went beach hopping just to see which beach I liked the best. Honestly, there was no clear winner as they were ALL beautiful. Of course, I enjoyed the classic stop, Porto Cervo with its famous port, clear turquoise waters and vibrant nightlife. But I also discovered a plethora of other activities including many water activities, archeological sites, the Blue Zone and fantastic wineries.
Maddalena Island, off the coast of Sardinia. Ideal for snorkeling, hiking, and observing diverse marine life in their protected national park was truly beautiful. The island of Caprera was very emotional for me. I had the chance to visit the home and tomb of Giuseppe Garibaldi. Garibaldi was one of the founding fathers of Italy's unification, he was also a leading political and military figure and a hero beloved by so many, including my father-in-law, who recently passed. Dad would have been so thrilled.
We then headed to the northwest of Sardinia, where we found a different ambiance in Alghero with its Catalan influence, as well as the super charming town of Stintino. This little town is on the very northwestern tip of the island and only minutes away from the famed and celebrated beach La Pelosa. This quickly became my favorite beach. Each time I looked at the water, I saw new and different hues of blues and greens. It completely took my breath away.
In the end, was Sardinia worthy of being on my bucket list? Absolutely. And I can’t wait for the return trip.
